When I had a gallery on Main Street, I got many visitors who wanted to talk about their own art, professionals and hobbyists alike. One gentleman who visited me regularly mentioned an interest in trying watercolor. He had motivation and free time, and me nagging at him and giving him art supplies, but that wasn’t enough. His big talk turned to action when he conceived of this silly plan to become a kind of Robin Hood of watercolor, leaving paintings all over town and exhorting those who find them to give to the Carrboro Artscenter Scholarship Fund. Although I thought it was nice in theory, I groused that people would take the paintings and forget to donate. He stood up for the good citizens of Carrboro, but it all was moot for several years in which he kept saying he wasn’t good enough of a painter, or people would think he was a publicity hound, or the Artscenter would find some fault with the scheme. He finally decided to keep his identity secret and to have me shill for him, and I figure I got my self into this mess, so here it is. If you find a painting by the Carrboro Artist, just know that he is a kindly, curmudgeonly type who means well. He donates ALL the money he gets for the paintings to The Artscenter Scholarship Fund as of this writing. His meager website and art supply expenses are underwritten by my real estate business. Please look for his work around town in little plastic bags, and if you like the painting, please take it. You can make any size donation using the envelope that comes with the painting. You can see past works at TheCarrboroArtist.com, and make a credit card donation on this site. Look for special prints for sale here that I will donate proceeds from as well. Let’s send some kids to ART camp!
